Gold and north Carolina Essay Gold and north Carolina Essay American History I chose to discuss Christopher Bechtler for the topic of my paper because he was a person of many talents and I can show the different aspects of Christopher Bechtler and his family, Christopher sailed to the United States in 1829 from Le Havre, France, he soon after arrived in New York City with his two son’s Augustus, Charles and brought along his nephew Carl Bechtler. Christopher Sr. soon opened up a small Jewelry shop in Philadelphia, Bechtler intended to stay and make Philadelphia a final place to call home being that his nephew was newly married to his German-American wife Sophia Fleck with whom he had four son’s and three daughters with, Bechtler decided to move him and his entire family to Rutherfordton, North Carolina in hopes of becoming a gold prospector I see that Mr. Bechtler was a man of many talents and ambitions nothing was impossible for him if he could gain some finical wealth from it. On April 25, 1830 Bechtler decided to purchase a tract of land in Rutherford County from a gentleman named John Bradley, being Bechtler was not yet a citizen of the United States yet ,he in trusted a German-American man named Martin Kibler to hold the title to his land, three months later Bechtler officially became a citizen of the United States of America. Bechtler consistently needed assistance with translators as well as witnesses for legal transactions; Bechtler never took advantage of learning the English language he knew bites and pieces of the English language to get through tolerable conversations, I believe Bechtler made the move from Philadelphia to West North Carolina in 1830 because there was a finical gain for him and his family and the opportunity for his business to flourish as a clock and watch maker, so Bechtler posted an advertisement in the North Carolina Spectator and the western Advertiser that he was open for business, I also believe that Bechtler was in the midst of a gold rush, this was one and certainly wouldn’t be the last place that gold was discovered in the United States. Being that North Carolina was the first place in the United States to have founded gold in this state by John Reed in 1799, there weren’t any kind of major mining operations that begun until 1825, that’s when gold bearing vein quartz was found in the hillside in North Carolina, by 1830 the gold rush was plentiful and very profitable at this time North Carolina gold production was valued at more than half a million a year, to be more pacific there was a worth alone in 2011 of 12.6 million dollars made in 2011, this gold was shipped overseas or sent to the Federal mint in Philadelphia, most of the gold stayed in the region, I do believe that this what was tempting to Bechtler to make the decision to move to North Carolina gold can be used for a number of things; like art work being used in a dust form, Bechtler has an obvious need to create jewelry out of the raw material called gold. Bechtler finally had sir-combed to gold fever himself in hopes of getting rich, in 1837 Bechtler decided to dig a tunnel 80 feet deep on this tract of land he had purchased in 1830, Bechtler sought out information from a British geologist George Featherstonhaugh, Featherstonhaugh told Bechtler that his land wasn’t very promising for gold and to have such an extensive dig, but Bechtler wouldn’t give up that easily on his dream to strike it rich, you know when a person has dedication to something like this when they put this as their last will and testament that â€Å" our ore will be found good†, just reading about Bechtler and his many ventures into profitable businesses made me think if the gold digging didn’t pan out he could always fall back to what he knew; which was fine custom made jewelry, which ultimately became his first business in North Carolina, he opened a watch and jewelry store in Rutherfordton, he wasn’t just a†one trick pony†as it were put he sold rings, earrings, necklaces, collar buttons,

Assess Client and Manage Patient for Respiratory-myassignmenthelp
Respiratory- The most urgent nursing assessment priority is to conduct respiratory assessment of patient to get information related to respiratory rate, auscultation of the lungs and oxygen saturation rate of patient after fall. This is important because high falls often cause soft tissue injury to lungs and may lead to subdural hematoma (Granhed et al. 2017). Hence, respiratory assessment may give idea about level of respiratory problem or soft tissue injury in patient after fall. GIT and metabolic- This assessment is important for patients because Jake has mainly complained about abdomen pain since admission to the ED. During this assessment, information about past medical history, current lifestyle and medication and nutritional uptake is necessary to determine the impact of any of these factors in contributing to stomach pain. It may indicate about intolerance to some food or side effects of medication since Jake is talking many medications. Onset, intensity and duration of pain will help to determine the correct medication for patient too (Macaluso and McNamara 2012). CVS- As the patient sustained fall from high height, checking vital signs like blood pressure and heart rate is necessary to identify symptoms of anxiety and heart rate variability in patients after fall. It may also give idea about the cardiovascular causes of falls (Palvanen et al. 2014) CNS- CNS assessment is important for Jake because fall from high height might have resulted in brain injury in patient and it may help to predict level of consciousness in patient after fall. This assessment may help the nurse to take further action to minimize future fall incidents. Renal- Falls are associated with decrease in renal function in patient and renal assessment might indicate about fluid balances status and urinary pattern after fall (Gallagher, Rapuri and Smith 2007). Skin- Skin assessment is also a vital assessment for patients as he might have sustained several skin injury and color of skin, temperature and moisture can give idea about any skin infection. Psychological and discharge- Assessment in this area is needed to understand Jake’s emotion and view after fall. This will to gather motivation of patient for recovery and mental capacity to handle challenges in the treatment process. The essential nursing assessment for patient with left sided chest pain will be to collect HEART score of patients as it will give data related to history, ECG, age, risk factors and troponin (Six et al. 2013). The data can help to determine the ischemic nature of chest pain in Jake. The PQRST assessment tool can also help to determine the main factor and severity of pain patient. As Jake has history of hypertension, the BP assessment of patient will also be essential to determine the cardiovascular risk status of patient and cardiovascular cause of chest pain (Daskalopoulou et al. 2015). Left sided chest pain is an indication of heart disorder. Blood clot in the lung or pneumothorax can also lead to sharp pain and chances of this are high in Jake due to fall. Te immediate nursing intervention for left sided chain pain will include immediate vital sign assessment of patient and making Jake sit in a semi-Fowler position to review pain. Oxygenation and relevant drugs will also be needed to reduce the intensity of pain (Abbas 2014). The rational for taking HEART score of patient is that this tool considers the risk stratification component responsible for chest pain and so it can help the clinician to make accurate diagnostic and therapeutic choices for patients like Jake (Six, Backus and Kelder 2008). The main advantage of considering semi-fowler’s position for patient with chest pain is that it facilitates airway management and relieving breathing difficulty in Jake due to chest pain (Godden and CPAN 2016). In addition, oxygen supplementation decreases the pain level if it is ischemic in nature (Raut and Maheshwari 2016). Two actual nursing complications due to left sided chest pain include shortness of breath in patient and risk of heart failure in patient. The two potential nursing complications evident due to left sided chest pain are development of precarditis and postinfarction angina in patient. 1.     Complain of left sided chest pain in patient  ·Ã‚        Monitor and document characteristics, intensity and heart rate or BP changes due to pain  ·Ã‚        Review past medical history of myocardial infarction in patient This nursing intervention will give idea about level of anxiety and intensity of pain in patients (Than et al. 2014). Pain documentation is crucial for resolution of patient’s problem 2.     Risk of ineffective tissue perfusion due to fall injury and abdominal pain  ·Ã‚        Assessment of skin, peripheral pulse, edema and vital signs in patient  ·Ã‚        Assessment of GI function Due to fall from high height, injuries might contribute to pulmonary complications in patients and abdominal pain. Hence, vital sign and skin assessment is critical to assess GI dysfunction and other complication in Jake after falls (Morton et al. 2017). This intervention is beneficial to prevent risk of complication in patients 3.     Risk of excess fluid volume due to fall  ·Ã‚        Maintain fluid intake in patients Auscultation is beneficial in identify and manage risk of heart failure. Maintaining fluid intake is necessary to enhance fluid retention. Jake also take two cans of beer everyday and restricting the use of beer is also necessary for recovery of patient (Platz et al. 2016) Risk of heart failure and circulatory problem in patient can be controlled 4.     Discomfort in patient due to chest and abdominal pain  ·Ã‚        Consider repositioning patients and proving analgesics Positioning will facilitate airway management in patient and analgesics will cause pain relief (Cortà ©s, DiCenso and McKelvie 2015) It is an effective intervention to minimize discomfort and intensity of pain in Jake 5.     Anxiety or fearful attitude in Jake due to chest and abdominal pain and fall injuries  ·Ã‚        Communicate with patient and identify perception and feelings of anger or grief in patient  ·Ã‚        Orient patient to routine and expected activities Communication with patient is important to know about coping capability of patient and reduce symptoms of depression. Orienting to routine activities distract patients from emotional stress and lead to improvement in signs of depression (Jayasinghe et al. 2014) Patient’s expression about current and future worries will help to take adequate steps to mitigate symptoms of anxiety in patient 6.     Acute abdominal pain in patient Abdominal pain in patient might also be caused by diarrhea. Hence, it is necessary to assess bowel movement in patient Bowel movement will help to determine the appropriate food and medications needed for patient to reduce pain Bowel pattern assessment is critical to proactively assess symptoms of nausea, constipation and diarrhea in patient 7.     Risk of bone or muscle injuries due to fall  ·Ã‚        Conduct skeletal/muscular assessment of patient Clinical assessment would help to evaluate the severity of muscle or bone injury On the basis of severity of injury, the nurse can consult the clinician regarding the use of conventional treatment option of medication or going for physiotherapy (Phelan et al. 2014) 8.     Prevent infection in patient  ·Ã‚        Implement hand hygiene and infection control intervention for Jake Due to fall, Jake is dependent on major activities of daily living. This may increase the risk of infection in patient. The civil rights of many Italian Americans were stripped and many innocent citizens were suspected of espionage and subversion. But my grandfather lived to see a positive transformation of this situation after the Second World War. The post War period saw renewed respect for all ethnic minorities given the fact that a significant percent age of armed forces came from the underclass and minorities. (Alba, 1985) As for our own leaders - their take on the situation was a little ambivalent. While blatant societal injustice caused rightful indignation, a corner of their hearts still felt indebted to this "land of the free" for gracefully embracing and welcoming these new citizens from afar. Such feeling for their adopted land is understandable, as my grandfather recollected the stories of persecution and oppression in his native land. (Alba, 1985) Another influential person in our family was our grandmother. Looking back, she was the last link to our ancestral native land. Not only she could speak fluent Italian, but also render an Opera or two. She was also adept at making marinara and rolling gnocchi. I remember how when I was a toddler, she would sing lullabies in Italian to put me to sleep. Much of my knowledge of Christianity is credited to her passing

The Devil in the Shape of a Woman â€Å"The Devil in the Shape of a Woman†was an excellent book that focuses on the unjusts that have been done to women in the name of witchcraft in Salem, and many other areas as well. It goes over statistical data surrounding gender, property inherence, and the perceptions of women in colonial New England. Unlike the other studies of colonial witchcraft, this book examines it as a whole, other then the usual Salem outbreaks in the late 17th century. To completely understand the history of New England witchcraft you have to understand the role of colonial women. The author of this book, Carol Karlsen, used a lot of Secondary and primary sources to support her thesis. She uses first hand accounts of witch trials. Which I found very interesting to read. Such as her use of Cotton Mathers personal writings. She also used court records as one of her sources to writing this book. These records showed the detailed court proceedings, depositions, and court rulings. The book begins with a brief history of the colonial witchcraft. Each Chapter is structured with an orientation, presentation of evidence, and her conclusion. A good example of her structure is in chapter two on the demographics of witchcraft; here she summarizes the importance of age and marital status in witchcraft accusations. What is meant by Caribbean music in a new mode? What emphasis, in this chapter, seems to justify a departure from traditional presentations of music and culture of the Caribbean? Caribbean music in a new mode it’s meant that it probes the African antecedents retained in the region’s religious rituals. The chapter further contends that in the African-derived context, no distinction is made between sacred and secular, and that popular festivals like carnival, rara, junkannu, or gumbay are rooted in an Afro-religious mode. In this respect, one finds commonality of themes, the major ones being: cultural affirmation; aspirations to freedom; and resistance to oppression as expressed in rituals such as Vodou, Santeria, Candomble, Kumina, or Shango; popular dance-hall styles like â€Å"rasin†in Haiti, reggae in Jamaica, samba-reggae in Brazil; and carnival musics like calypso and soca in Trinidad & Tobago. The mix of culture seems to justify a departure from traditional presentation of music and culture of the Caribbean. Caribbean music was influenced by the triple cultural: Amerindian, African and European. Caribbean music styles can be classified into folk, classical, or commercial popular categories.Caribbean Music contain the traditional music and the features of other countries and area. It creates its own unique style. Caribbean Music absorbed African music Percussion Music. The Caribbean can make good use of drums and other strong beat instruments. Samba,Rumba, Merengue, Reggae,Calypso, and Soca are also relate to the African dancing. Therefore, vigorous music is one of important Caribbean Music Characteristics. Because of the the effect on the west side, Caribbean Music always has a strong Latin style, which makes Caribbean Music more charming. In the past, the Carnival was resisted by the upper class. However, it becomes the world biggest showcase for all over the world. Nowadays, Caribbean music combine some international elements and keep their music original style which leads Caribbean music and its dancing to become more famous and popular. The music of the Caribbean illustrates the soundscape of Africa and Europe, and this may be observed in the rhythms of Candomble, Santerà a, Vodou, Kumina, and Shango, as well as the popular dance-hall styles of rumba, samba, merengue, reggae, calypso and soca.

Men and women have different life experiences, the writing of male and female authors will differ, as well. Some people believe that male authors are not able to write accurately from the female perspective or present feminist ideals because they have not experienced life as women. When writing about women it is possible that authors will describe them differently depending on gender and culture. But, there are cases were male authors can illustrate women representing the stereotypical female. To explore these issues, I have studied the representation of women in four novels: two novels from male writers, Henry James and Ernest Hemingway, and two novels by female writers, Kate Chopin and Sandra Cisneros. Their marital relationships do not make them happy as much as they oppress them.
